My journey to healing my digestion and finding robust health and food freedom started many years ago, and it has been a long and winding road. Just like you, it took me a very long time to figure out how to help my body function optimally and have healthy digestion. Over a decade ago, I had already been a dietitian for several years and as I dove deeper into healthy eating, I noticed my health only getting worse. Even though I felt like an expert at the time, I was totally lost and defeated. I had constant bloating, anxiety, painful periods, poor sleep and bad skin. I thought I was doing everything right, so I didn’t know what to do to get better. No amount of supplements or clean eating made my symptoms go away and, in fact, the more perfect I tried to be, the worse I felt.
Because of this, I decided I absolutely had to figure out a new way to live so that I could thrive and feel good again. I have tried EVERY diet under the sun and about just about every supplement, too. Despite all of the money, time and energy I put into trying to heal, I kept missing the mark. Once I discovered that the true cause of my imbalances and symptoms was stress--the physical and emotional stressors that kept me in fight or flight and prevented my body from healing--everything turned around for me. I finally put the focus where it belonged: properly fueling my body, adding in nourishing foods I had removed unnecessarily, creating rhythms and connections, letting go of perfection and addressing stressors in my life. With this mindset shift, I actually started to feel better. I started to look beyond food (a big step for a nutritionist!) and study views of nutrition that rocked my world, all while realizing there was not one “right” way to do anything.
I kept digging until, finally, I stopped having the bloating, acne, constipation, and insomnia that kept me fixated on food and my symptoms. Figuring out the deep connection between the nervous system and the rest of the body–especially digestion–and what truly allows our body to heal and thrive, has changed everything for me, both personally and professionally. Ever since then, I have been determined to help others heal their digestion, expand their view of what it means to be healthy and find food freedom. I had grown accustomed to not feeling great most of the time, as a result of stomach and sleeping issues. Discomfort after eating meals, difficulty sleeping, daily bloating/diarrhea. After working together I noticed increased sleep and regular stomach discomfort was nearly gone after a week of starting on the plan with supplements and diet recommendations. I noticed that I have had more energy and am even staying more hydrated. I feel confident and comfortable eating meals, especially with friends, knowing that I am not as likely to feel sick afterwards.
